Policies & Procedures
Attendance
In accordance with state laws, all pupils are held to regular and punctual attendance. Parents are to call the school office (713-224-7265) between 8:00 AM and 9:00am on the day of each absence; immediately following the absence, the pupil is required to present the teacher with a written excuse stating the specific reason for the absence signed by the parents. Homework for an absent student may only be picked up after school dismissal at 3:15pm and not during the school day.
Building Admittance
In order to provide a safe and secure environment ALL INDIVIDUALS entering the building during school hours (8:00am - 3:15pm) must first come to the school office and sign-in. This is regardless of the purpose or length of the visit.
Closure Due to Weather
Generally, our school follows the closure policy of the Houston Independent School District when inclement weather results in school closing or delay. School closings will be announced on local television and radio stations. Parents may pick up their students early only in rare cases, such as flooding.
Discipline
Teachers are entrusted with the care, education, and spiritual growth of each student who attends Trinity Lutheran School. In order to meet these expectations, Trinity provides a learning environment in which a child feels secure, happy, and interested in learning. School and classroom discipline is a vital part of this environment. Students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 receive a conduct grade which reflects behavior and cooperation within school.
Eligibility
Trinity Lutheran School recognizes the importance of learning and the responsibility to educate each student. With this mission in mind, we see academics as primary and extra curricular activities as secondary. In order to encourage and accomplish the academic goals of Trinity Lutheran School, guidelines are followed regarding the eligibility of a student to participate in athletics or extra curricular activities (examples of extra-curricular activities are Academic Quest, Bible Bowl,Spring Musical, etc.)
Health Policy
Trinity Lutheran School does not have the facilities or personnel to offer medical care beyond routine first aid treatment. If a student is injured or becomes ill at school, the school nurse will comfort the child and contact a parent or guardian to pick the student up. It is expected that the parent will do this within an hour of being contacted. Parents are responsible to ensure that each child has up-to-date emergency numbers on file with the school office, including parent contact numbers and an alternate contact number. In the unlikely event of a medical emergency, an ambulance may be called before the parent is notified. Our primary concern is for the health and safety of the child.
Dress Code
Students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 are required to wear uniforms. Students wear belts with all slacks; shirts and blouses are buttoned appropriately and tucked in; the length of skirts/shorts/skorts must not be more than 3 inches above the knee, no sandals or backless shoes. The“over-sized” look is not acceptable. Hairstyles are to be neat and well-groomed. Various coats and jackets may be worn to and from school, but only Trinity Lutheran School sweatshirts, sweaters and jackets may be worn in the building during the school day. On field trip days, the teacher will direct the proper clothing for the day.
Homework
The challenging program at Trinity has always required that study also be done at home. This is not only necessary for accomplishing the immediate goals but also for developing helpful habits as future education becomes more and more demanding. The amount of homework depends on the grade level and the ability and study habits of the child. Parents can help by providing encouragement and a quiet place for study.
