Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

Here’s some news you might not have heard in a while: Scripture overflows with reminders of how dependent we are on God’s provision, mercy, and grace. Every day, every hour, every minute.

Oh, you say, this is something you’ve known for years; it’s something that’s reinforced at every worship service and every time we read God’s Word. It’s certainly not a surprise.

True, but if you’re like me, I often forget to let these principles modify my daily behavior. E.g., I often act as if I am in charge of my life. I assume it’s all up to me. Too often, my actions indicate that consider myself the General Manager of My Universe, with all of the rights and responsibilities that the office entails. And the responsibilities are quite burdensome.

But the reality is that we couldn’t draw our next breath if it wasn’t for God’s intervention. He gives us the health to get up in the morning, the physical and intellectual capacity to work, and the relationships we need to be truly human. The only sane way to look at our circumstances is to recognize how generous God has been, is, and will be toward each of us.

We are also called to mirror God’s generosity to others. Demonstrating a generous heart toward others is the primary pathway for God to work among us.

This Sunday at Trinity Downtown, we’ll continue discussing how the ancient Corinthians handled a big “distress offering” to the needy church in Jerusalem, and what resulted from their spirit of generosity. Come home to Trinity this Sunday; come learn how placing your doubts, suffering, distractions, hopes, fears, uncertainties in the hands of the Lord can lessen our stress load and bring deep transformation in our hearts. Celebrate with us the depth of Jesus’ love for us and find out how you can live a life of significance, filled with meaning.  Discover how following Jesus can help you and your family navigate around the minefields of life. I promise you it will make a tremendous difference in your life.
