Giving Thanks... Together!

Trinity Downtown > Blog > Giving Thanks… Together!

Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Ephesians 4:15-16 ESV

Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

This is the season of thanksgiving, when we are encouraged to be grateful for all that we’ve been given. We give praise to the Lord for His goodness in granting us life, health, a peaceful and prosperous country…the list goes on and on.

It is certainly appropriate for us to be especially mindful of expressing our gratitude for these blessings in our private conversations with the Lord. But what I’d like to concentrate on this Thanksgiving is how we can magnify our thankfulness by doing it together. I think it’s especially potent when we give thanks in community; both when we gather as a family and when we gather as a church community.

We’ve recently been through a period when we had to stay separate to limit the spread of COVID, and we’re all experiencing what happens as our national politics becomes increasingly divisive. But the atmosphere inside Trinity is so different, and I’m so thankful for each and every one of you.  We welcome one another, pray for one other, and, together act as “Jesus with skin on” to our hurting community. The spirit we jointly express is precious. This Thanksgiving, let’s be especially grateful for what we have…TOGETHER.

This Sunday at Trinity Downtown, come celebrate together as we install Pastor Lonnie Gonzales as our Associate Pastor of Outreach at the traditional service, and hear Pastor Lonnie’s extended interview with Pastor Dorn during the contemporary worship service. And don’t miss the welcome reception for Pastor Lonnie, and his wife Joy, in the Gathering Space during the Discipleship Hour.

Come home to Trinity this Sunday; come learn how placing your doubts, suffering, distractions, hopes, fears, uncertainties in the hands of the Lord can lessen our stress load and bring deep transformation in our hearts. Celebrate with us the depth of Jesus’ love for us and find out how you can live a life of significance, filled with meaning.  Discover how following Jesus can help you and your family navigate around the minefields of life. I promise you it will make a tremendous difference in your life.
