Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

If you look up the definition of “smile” in the dictionary, it refers to smiling as “a pleased, kind or amused facial expression.” Researchers tell us that humans exhibit three kinds of smiles. The most common reason we smile is to give another person positive feedback. We want to convey that we are pleased with them, or tell them we are friendly and open to interaction. Smiling can also indicate that we consider the other individual(s) part of our social group. Lastly (and hopefully not happening around Trinity) scientists say we sometimes smile to signal dominance toward the others in the group; think of the condescending smile that someone like Vladimir Putin uses.

Whether sincere or not, we’re told the physical act of smiling releases several neurotransmitters that elevate our mood and relax our muscles. So smiling is good for us!

So, what do you think makes God smile? Is there an attitude or an action we can take that will please Him and cause Him to smile?

This Sunday, we’ll be starting a new sermon series focusing on the famous “faith chapter” in Hebrews. We’ll be looking at what the Old Testament character of Enoch did to please God. He was so successful in making God smile that Enoch’s one of only two individuals that the Bible records that God took to Heaven without having to suffer death. Pretty powerful testimony!

Come join with us this Sunday at Trinity Downtown as we start this important study on faith. Come learn how placing your suffering, distractions, hopes, fears, uncertainties and doubts in the hands of the Lord can lessen our stress load and bring deep transformation in our hearts. Celebrate with us the depth of Jesus’ love for us and find out how you can live a life of significance, filled with meaning.  Discover how following Jesus can help you and your family navigate around the minefields of life. I promise you it will make a tremendous difference in your life.

An Update on Pastor Black

Late last week, Pastor Black was released from the hospital and transferred to a rehabilitation facility. He’s resting and eating well, and is under the tender care of his physical therapists helping him regain his strength. Pastor Black and his family continue to appreciate your prayers for his medical team, asking for wisdom on the next steps in his treatment plan, and for a complete recovery. If you’d like to send a get-well card to Pastor Black and Audrey, you can address it to their home at:
