Listening to God's Voice

Trinity Downtown > Blog > Listening to God’s Voice

But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary.”  Luke 10:41-42a ESV

Here’s how you can participate:
  • The Sanctuary remains closed for renovation, so we’ll be meeting for worship in the Gym.
Service times are unchanged, and the services will be video-streamed as normal. Armchairs will
be sprinkled throughout the Gym’s seating area for those that might need them
  •  You may see the online worship folder by clicking here, or by scanning the QR code with your
smartphone at the table nearest to the Gym entrance from the Gathering Space
Here’s some info you’ll want to know-
  • After prayerful and thoughtful consideration by the staff, and following consultation with the Governing Board, we have decided to suspend the contemporary worship service for a season.  We cherish those who prefer the contemporary style, so please give them a hearty welcome as they join the 9:00 am worship service
  • Mark your calendars for Ash Wednesday services that will be held February 22nd at noon and at 6:30pm. The evening service will be live-streamed
  • Watch your email for links to our daily Lenten videos that will start on February 22nd
  • Get ready for “Go Texan Sunday” on February 26th. We’ll have a chili cook-off, and the Holy Smokers will be providing brisket, sausages and all the sides starting at 11:30am
  • Our vintage pews are now in storage awaiting their new home at San Romero Episcopal church. I’ve attached a photo (below) of how expertly the pews are being cared for.
  • Check out the online time-lapse camera in the Sanctuary that is capturing the renovation as it occurs!

Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

Have you ever been embarrassed to discover that in the middle of a conversation with a friend or spouse, you become so distracted that you lost track of the conversation? Did your conversation partner notice your distraction? What was their response?

Or, while watching television, have you found yourself losing track of the story arc because you’re scrolling through social media on your smartphone?

Luke tells us that Jesus encountered something similar when He attended a social event at Mary and Martha’s house. Martha was (famously) distracted by all of the “good works” she was doing, while ignoring the very Word of God in her midst.

Distractions are everywhere, and I often fall prey to them.

This Sunday at Trinity Downtown, we’ll be commemorating the transfiguration of Jesus and exploring how we can move beyond distractions toward a posture of listening to what the Lord is saying to each of us. Come obey God’s command to “Listen to Him!” this weekend, and see how you can live a life of significance, filled with meaning.  Discover how following Jesus can help you and your family navigate around the minefields of life. I promise you it will make a tremendous difference in your life.
