Joseph, one of the patriarchs of ancient Israel, made some really bone-headed choices. He gossiped, was intensely prideful about the gifts that God had granted him, and generally acted as if the whole world revolved around him. To be fair, he grew up in a family system that was, to put it mildly, much less than ideal. So, this founder of one of the twelve tribes of Israel would probably be labeled (in today’s terms) as “a piece of work”.
Despite his flaws, God chose Joseph to save the children of Israel from hunger and death during a world-wide famine. And God used the circumstances of Joseph’s life to eventually make him the person God wanted him to be.
The same thing happens to us. God invites us to trust that the “ordinary” events of our life will be inexplicably and mysteriously used to hone our personalities into something more pleasing to Him. Have you seen any evidence of that process in your life?
This Sunday at Trinity Downtown, come find a God that pursues each of us, even if we didn’t care about a relationship with him. Come hear about Jesus, who suffered, died and rose again to pay the penalty for your sins and open the way for the Holy Spirit to continually whisper to your heart “You know, I really DO love you so deeply that you can’t fully comprehend it.”
Come celebrate with the other beloved sinners at Trinity Downtown as we worship our gracious God and welcome the resurrected Savior. Come join us in a spirit of humility and repentance and be reminded of how dependent we are on God’s guidance and grace. Recall the great cost Jesus paid in showering that grace upon us, and His promise that death is not the end. This weekend, give Him the opportunity to re-position your heart, redeem your circumstances and deepen your recognition that you are totally dependent upon Him for both your salvation and your very life.
