And this is [God’s] commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another… 1 John 3:23a ESV

Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

We swim in a sea of relationships. They surround us, enfold us, confound us and define us. Our ability to successfully nurture relationships plays a huge role in determining how successful we are in life. We spend a lifetime building and tending relationships with our extended family, co-workers, neighbors, church family, bosses, our mail carrier, hair stylist, fellow hobby aficionados and pets. The list goes on almost ad infinitum. And, of course, we must not leave the most important relationship we have (or don’t have) – our relationship with our Creator.

This weekend at Trinity Downtown, we are continuing our sermon series discussing how to live a Christian life in a world that is saturated with social media. This new technology makes it possible for us to have many more “friends” but it can also give us a false impression of who our REAL friends are, and what it REALLY takes to nurture our relationships. It seems the definition of “friend” has subtly changed, and we need to hear what God says about how we can build solid relationships.

This weekend, take some time to ponder how God’s love for each of us gives us the pattern for how we can build loving relationships with each other. You can participate in-person at our contemporary worship service on Saturday at 5:00 pm or our traditional worship service on Sunday at 9:00 am. If you are not comfortable attending an in-person service, you can watch the “live stream” of our Satellite Service at 5:00 pm on Saturday, or our traditional service on Sunday at 9:00 am by clicking here. And, of course, you may also participate by watching either of these services “on demand” by clicking here.

To enhance your worship this weekend, I’ve attached the Order of Worship we’ll use on Sunday, along with our church’s prayer list.

As you know, we are constantly reviewing our COVID-related safety protocols and we’ll continue to make appropriate revisions as the vaccination levels in our community increase. While we are assuming that wearing a mask while on Trinity’s campus will continue to be important for a while longer, we are working to eliminate the need to enter an “RSVP” for each worship service you want to attend. We will be implementing an automated system for electronically “checking in” as you arrive for worship. (And don’t worry, we’ll make it easy for those that might not be carrying a smartphone with them!) Watch this space for further details. In the meantime, however, reservations are required to attend any in-person worship service; you can see the details at www.trinitydt.org.  You may also make a reservation by calling Stefanie at 713.224.0684 from 8:30-2:30 each weekday.

During this stressful time, come be encouraged by the warmth and joy of God’s love. Come ready to digest His words of truth and be filled with the surprising love of Jesus so you can share that love and peace with everyone!

I look forward to celebrating our shared relationship with our Lord with you this weekend.

Your Pastor,

Michael Dorn
