Don’t forget our Superbowl Tailgate party this Sunday! Come for worship at 11:15 am, and stay for the Holy Smokers’ turkey legs, hot dogs, beer from St. Arnolds, chili cookoff and games!
This is the week that sports lovers look forward to, with last Sunday’s Pro Bowl, the ongoing Winter Olympics, and, of course, Sunday’s Superbowl. There’s plenty to watch and lots of opportunities to create and sustain friendships. Plus, it’s just fun!
The playing of sports (at all levels) is a great metaphor for life. Participation requires grit, determination, practice, skill development and strategic thinking. Just watching a sporting event can create community and friendly competition. And, of course, there’s always “the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.”
Sporting events also give Jesus’ Church an opportunity to share His Good News in a winsome way. That’s exactly what we are doing this Sunday at Trinity Downtown. The contemporary service at 11:15 am will offer a sports-themed yet crystal-clear presentation of the Gospel, followed by our “tailgate” party at 12:30 pm. The Holy Smokers will be cooking turkey legs, hot dogs and brats, and St Arnold’s brewery will be providing the beverages. We’ll have a chili cookoff, and provide plenty of games and opportunities for fellowship.
This will be the first of several events we’ve planned in 2022 that gives you an easy “excuse” to invite your neighbors, co-workers and friends to Trinity Downtown. Our advertisements on social media have reached 30,000 individuals with over 600 of those folks asking for additional information. Please help us pray that the Lord will bring many visitors to the 11:15 am service to hear the Gospel and experience Trinity’s hospitality.
We have another service opportunity for your consideration: Mr. Carris Richards has served Trinity for over 35 years in various custodial roles. He’s always there to help when it’s needed. Now, Carris needs our help. One of his daughters suffered a debilitating stroke over 5 years ago which left her bedridden. Carris has now moved Lydia into his home to care for her, and the process has been (and will continue to be) expensive. We’d like to honor Carris’ years of quiet, behind-the-scenes service to Trinity Downtown with a love offering to help defray some of these expenses. You can drop a check marked “Carris love offering” in the offering plate or mail it to the church office. You may also give online and select the “Carris Richards Love Offering” fund.
This weekend at Trinity Downtown, come share your fears, your hopes, and your dreams with the God who created you, and be reminded how deeply He loves you. Please take advantage of our nursery, which is now open to care for children 2 years old and younger on Sunday mornings.
We continue to be deeply thankful for the God-inspired work of our medical professionals who developed and are distributing the COVID vaccines, and who continue to care for those afflicted with this disease. Please keep the members of our congregation who serve in these capacities in your daily prayers that God may grant them strength, courage and a robust immune system.
This Sunday come learn how placing your hopes, fears, uncertainties and doubts in the hands of the Lord can lessen our stress load and bring deep transformation in our hearts. Celebrate with us the depth of Jesus’ love for us and find out how you can live a life of significance, filled with meaning. Discover how following Jesus can help you and your family navigate around the minefields of life.
Come worship the Lord at Trinity Downtown this weekend. I promise you it will make a tremendous difference in your life.
