Trinity Downtown > Trinity Downtown Rings Chapel Bells In Honor of COVID-19 Memorial

The 25-bell Carillon at Trinity Downtown will ring at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Janury 19th, as part of a nationwide tribute to remember and honor those who have passed away from COVID-19.

Trinity will be ringing the bell 40 times to commemorate the 400,000 lives that have been lost over the past year. On the 25th ring, “Amazing Grace” will be played as an honorary testimony for all who have been affected by this pandemic and to serve as a hope for perseverance, even during hardships.

The entire city of Houston will be participating in the national Memorial this evening by turning the city hall and other buildings to amber at dusk. The socially distanced tribute will follow all safety protocols, and Trinity asks that those who are interested in being involved, pray with us in the comfort of their own homes, or visit our campus via car to listen to the memorial service.

Simultaneously, Washington D.C. and cities across the country will also be showcasing their own commemoration as a part of the national memorial. Washington D.C. will feature the lighting of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and the illumination of buildings and ringing church bells to represent unity and remembrance.

“It is important that our City and country unite at this time and reflect n the devastating impact COVID-19 has inflicted on our communities. A lot of families are grieving the loss of a loved one. Hosting a memorial and remembering people who died due to complications from the virus will be a nonpartisan event. I encourage everyone to join us by illuminating your building, ringing a bell, and watching the virtual program,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner.

You can tune into the City of Houston’s virtual program on their social media platforms on Twitter or Facebook, as well as on the Houston Municipal Channel HTV.
