Watch the Man Behind the Curtain

Trinity Downtown > Blog > Watch the Man Behind the Curtain

And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations … people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world.

Luke 21:25a, 26a ESV

Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

When I was a kid, one of my favorite movies was the Wizard of Oz. I’m not sure which characters were the most frightening to me: the Wicked Witch of the West, the flying monkeys, or the smoke and flames associated with the unveiling of the “Great Oz” at the end of the movie.

Then, of course, there was the Big Reveal; the unassuming “man behind the curtain” was masterminding the whole affair! All of a sudden, the smoke and flames associated with the Great Oz didn’t seem to be so terrifying.

Jesus discusses something similar in the Gospel passage we’ll be exploring this Sunday. He predicts how wars, persecutions, famines and epidemics will always be a part of our existence. He even says that we’ll be hated for bearing Christ’s name. That’s certainly happening today in China, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Iran…the list goes on.

So we have (at least) two things to be thankful for this Sunday:

  • we have been assured by the Ultimate Man Behind the Curtain that we enjoy His protection and guidance, despite the turmoil that we are (and will be) experiencing, and
  • the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, and the sacrifices that purchased our freedom by the veterans of our armed forces.

This Sunday at Trinity Downtown, we’ll have a chance to express our thanks for these blessings. Come home to Trinity this Sunday; come learn how placing your doubts, suffering, distractions, hopes, fears, uncertainties in the hands of the Lord can lessen our stress load and bring deep transformation in our hearts. Celebrate with us the depth of Jesus’ love for us and find out how you can live a life of significance, filled with meaning.  Discover how following Jesus can help you and your family navigate around the minefields of life. I promise you it will make a tremendous difference in your life.
