Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing

[Jesus said] but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. Mark 4:19 ESV

Don’t forget that we welcome springtime by setting our clocks FORWARD one hour on Saturday night.

Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

It is terribly easy for me to get distracted from what I am REALLY trying to accomplish in life. Sit me down, and ask me to talk about my goals, you’d hear some pretty standard (and lofty) objectives that would include:

  • Doing all that I can do to help our daughters develop a deep and life-altering relationship with God and His church;
  • Deepening Trinity Downtown’s spiritual health so that we continue to grow in love for each other and in our ability to share the Good News effectively to our community; and
  • Making sure that I do my part to nurture a strong and loving marriage.

These are just a few of the “main things” I try to focus on.

But distractions abound. There’s a wreck on the freeway on my way to work. My laptop is inexplicably slow, and disconnects from Wi-Fi for no apparent reason. Last night’s meal was great but resulted in an upset stomach. The list goes on ad infinitum.

Do you get distracted, too? Are you tempted to let the “main thing” get relegated to something less than the Main Thing?

That’s why reminding ourselves on a daily basis what’s really important is so important. So, take advantage of our daily Lenten devotional videos, and come together with your church community each week to get reinforcement. Use this Lenten season of repentance and contemplation to deepen your relationship and sharpen your focus on what really matters.
