For you know that afterward, when [Esau] desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears. Hebrews 12:17 ESV

Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

I have lots of important “wants”. I want the terrible traffic on my commute to dissipate; I want Houston’s searing summer temps to moderate and my air conditioner to not use so much electricity. I want tonight’s meal to be especially savory and be an enjoyable time for me and my family.

I have lots of “wants.” You undoubtably do as well, and there’s certainly nothing wrong with them. Desires get us in trouble, however, when we allow them to overshadow our blessings–when we look out at our corner of the world and only see what we DON’T have, it’s very easy to discount what we DO have. Discontent stemming from unmet “wants” can cast a dark shadow on our relationships and make us blind to the blessings the Lord is showering down upon us.

This Sunday, we’ll continue our sermon series focusing on the characters in the famous “faith chapter” in Hebrews. This week, we’ll be looking more closely at Esau and Jacob, and how Esau let his desires rob him of his blessings. Come join with us at Trinity Downtown as we continue this important study on faith. Come learn how placing your suffering, distractions, hopes, fears, uncertainties and doubts in the hands of the Lord can lessen our stress load and bring deep transformation in our hearts. Celebrate with us the depth of Jesus’ love for us and find out how you can live a life of significance, filled with meaning.  Discover how following Jesus can help you and your family navigate around the minefields of life. I promise you it will make a tremendous difference in your life.
