O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us, with ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us. “Now Thank we All Our God” by Martin Rinkard LSB 895

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 ESV

…in Your presence there is fullness of joy. Psalm 16:11b ESV

Here’s how you can participate:

● Last week we were alerted that a young family that attends Christ Church (LCMS) in Lincoln, Nebraska are in Houston preparing for in-utero surgery on their baby girl. Thanks to the generosity of our congregation, this week Cortney, Alex and baby Micha moved into a condo near the Medical Center this week, and we were able to give them generous financial aid. If you’d like to help them make up for lost income, parking and transportation costs, please donate online by going here and selecting the “Families in Distress Fund”. And, of course, prayers for God’s intervention and healing for Cortney and baby Mischa are much appreciated

Save the date on your calendar for Trinity’s Fall Kickoff being held on Sunday, August 27th. We’ll be blessing our students (along with their backpacks!) as they re-enter school and enjoy BBQ from the Holy Smokers. We look forward to seeing you!

● In preparation for the Fall kick-off of our children’s Discipleship Hour, we are in need of additional leaders who have a passion for teaching students in PreK 4/5 and 3rd/4th grade. Please email Haley Davisson (hdavisson@trinitydt.org) if you are feeling a tug from the Holy Spirit to help this important ministry!

● You won’t want to miss the Hymnal Marathon starting at 9:00am on Saturday, August 12th at Trinity. Organist Benjamin Kolodziej will play all 635 hymns in the Lutheran Service Book! It’s a “come and go” affair, and you may join either in-person or via video streaming.

Trinity Downtown is blessed with a great staff who work hard to make it easier for each of us to deepen our relationship with God. I want to let everyone know that Trinity Garrett, our Director of Administration and HR, after almost 10 years of service on our staff, has decided to step back from her staff responsibilities to focus on her calling as a wife and mother. We support and understand her decision, although we will miss her expertise and the daily dose of joy she brought to the office. I’m so pleased that Trinity and John will continue serving our church in various important volunteer activities, and she and her family will continue worshipping alongside us. Please join the staff in offering thanks to Trinity for her years of service, and prayers that God will continue richly blessing her and her family. And please plan to attend the reception in her honor following next Sunday’s worship service

If you’re looking for an adult Bible study class during the summer months, Pastor Dorn and Pastor Lonnie are offering a class during the Discipleship Hour each Sunday in Room 123. You may find a complete list of our classes by clicking here, or you can find a brochure in the Narthex, Foyer or Gathering Space.

You may see the online worship folder by clicking here, or by scanning the QR code in the pew pocket. Since we have multiple services this week, the online worship folder will be periodically updated for the upcoming worship service(s)

Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

Humans are wired to pursue personal happiness. The advertising industry and social media are built with one underlying goal in mind—to show us the way to happiness. Their solution–buy the right toothpaste; fix up your home in the latest style; or go here [insert favorite getaway] where you will most certainly find peace. Even our American Declaration of Independence asserts that we all have a God-given right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

But Scripture calls us to a deeper understanding. Rather than pursuing a happiness that is dependent on our circumstances, God offers us unending joy. Not joy that we must chase after, not joy that fluctuates like a Wi-Fi signal, and certainly not joy that is dependent upon our good behavior. God offers us Himself, and in His presence, we are surprised by joy.

This Sunday at Trinity Downtown, we’ll be continuing our series looking at the fruit that the Holy Spirit naturally develops into our lives as we follow Jesus. This Sunday, we’ll be focusing on joy, the fruit that we all seek but comes only by building daily communion with God.

If you are dismayed, disappointed and harassed in your pursuit of happiness, join us this weekend at Trinity Downtown as we gather to hear the Holy Spirit’s whispers of joy. It will make a world of difference in your life.
