Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

Businesses conduct employee performance evaluations, and sometimes cull the employees who find themselves at the bottom of the rankings. Unmarried folks go on dates, so they can carefully evaluate potential mates. We rate ourselves on the size of our bank accounts, the prestige associated with our educational institutions, and how much responsibility we are given at work. Even married couples sometimes (probably unwisely) “keep score” on how much their partner contributes to the relationship.

We are all constantly pushed to be the best, to try harder and work smarter. And, of course, that’s the way the world works. And, in the normal course of our lives, God is pleased and glorified when we effectively use the gifts that He has granted to us.

But what happens when you find yourself confronted with a problem that is clearly beyond your abilities, when chanting “I THINK I can; I THINK I can; I THINK I can” is simply a waste of breath? Perhaps your teenager is going off the rails, or your business is being acquired and your job is in jeopardy? Maybe a dear friend has betrayed you, or the doctor has delivered a devastating diagnosis.

The Old Testament records that Joseph, one of the patriarchs of ancient Israel, was confronted with a series of these kinds of challenges. Challenges that could only be solve by God’s intervention. God invites us to consciously place our trust in Him when confronted with these kinds of extraordinary events. He is giving us the opportunity to experience his providential care and observe His (sometimes quiet) intervention.

This Sunday at Trinity Downtown, come find a God whose steadfast love helps us to weather the emotional ups and downs that come our way. Come worship the God that pursues each of us, even if we didn’t care about a relationship with him. Come hear about Jesus, who suffered, died and rose again to pay the penalty for your sins and open the way for the Holy Spirit to continually whisper to your heart “You know, I really DO love you so deeply that you can’t fully comprehend it.”

This weekend, give Him the opportunity to re-position your heart, redeem your circumstances and deepen your recognition that you are totally dependent upon Him for both your salvation and your very life.
