God’s upside-down Kingdom // Update on Pastor Black

Trinity Downtown > Blog > God’s upside-down Kingdom // Update on Pastor Black

[Jesus said] “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 14:11 ESV

Here’s how you can participate:
  • Participate this Sunday at Trinity’s Fall Kickoff. We’ll be blessing our students as they re-enter school (along with their backpacks!) and enjoy picnic fare from the Holy Smokers served in the Gym. Food service will start at 11:30 and be timed so that participants coming from the Discipleship Hour, the Contemporary worship service and CASA’s Spanish language may all be served without incurring a long wait.
  • Remember, children and students attending Discipleship Hour will first meet in the Gym before heading to their classes. Parents are welcome to join them!
  • We have an excited volunteer team working on the launch of our next capital campaign focused on renewing the Sanctuary. Look for more information on the “Magnify” campaign in the coming weeks.

Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

C.S. Lewis was one of the intellectual giants of the 20th century and arguably one of the most influential Christian thinkers of his day. He was gifted with an uncanny ability to lay bare the uncomfortable truths underlying our deepest temptations. In his book “The Inner Ring”, Lewis describes a temptation that we probably all face: we want to be counted as part of the “in” crowd, to feel accepted in whatever group happens to matter to us at any particular time in our social lives. We all know the pain involved in feeling excluded, and are sometimes tempted to do “whatever it takes” to avoid that fate, even to the point of compromising our integrity.

This Sunday, we’ll be discussing an incident in Jesus’ life that highlights this problem, and we’ll discover together how we should behave as part of His kingdom. Come join with us at Trinity Downtown as we continue this important study on the upside-down rules of Jesus. Come learn how placing your suffering, distractions, hopes, fears, uncertainties and doubts in the hands of the Lord can lessen our stress load and bring deep transformation in our hearts. Celebrate with us the depth of Jesus’ love for us and find out how you can live a life of significance, filled with meaning.  Discover how following Jesus can help you and your family navigate around the minefields of life. I promise you it will make a tremendous difference in your life.

I’ve attached a note from the family that gives a bit more detail. Please continue praying, and if you’d like to send a get-well card to Pastor Black and Audrey, you can address it to their home at:
