[Jesus told His disciples] “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.” Matthew 10:34 ESV

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32 ESV

Here’s how you can participate:

Continue praying for the participants in our High School mission trip, asking the Lord to dramatically deepen the faith of each of the participants, that God will use them to share His love to the communities they will be serving, and for safe travels back to Houston this weekend. (See photos below)

Mark your calendars for the Houston Lutheran Chorale’s July 4th concert being held at Trinity at 4:00 pm on the Fourth. Under the direction of Steve Bayless, HLC will present its Independence Day concert “One Nation Under God.” A free will offering will be taken.

If you’re looking for an adult Bible study class during the summer months, Pastor Dorn and Pastor Lonnie are offering a class during the Discipleship Hour each Sunday in Room 123. You may find a complete list of our classes here, or you can find a brochure in the Narthex, Foyer or Gathering Space

● You won’t want to miss the Hymn Marathon starting at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 12th at Trinity. Organist Benjamin Kolodziej will play all 635 hymns in the Lutheran Service Book! It’s a “come and go” affair, and you may join either in-person or via video streaming.

Dear Members and Friends of Trinity Downtown:

You might recall the Sunday in March (when we were worshipping in the gym) when our daughter Elizabeth brought Pearl, the dog she was training to become a service animal. She spoke about how the training process emphasizes positive reinforcement, with very little focus on harsh discipline. During training, the only time she was instructed to speak loudly or negatively to Pearl was if she was about to hurt herself or someone else.

I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that God’s “training manual” for us is similar. Our lives are filled with His blessings and grace. But sometimes, what we all need to hear is the simple, plain, unvarnished truth. Not truth that’s “nuanced” like a politician. Truth without sugar-coating, hemming or hawing. Truth that throws a bright light on what’s REALLY going on. Truth that helps us avoid hurting someone else and puts up guardrails to protect us.

We’ll be discussing some of these unvarnished truths Sunday at Trinity Downtown. Come join the throng of beloved sinners that will gather to hear Jesus tell us the simple, straightforward truth. It will make a world of difference in your life.
